Chandler: How can you eat the cheesecake without me?! Rachel: Oh, what are you going to do?! Are you gonna go run tell Monica?! Are you gonna tell Joey?! No! Because then you will have to tell them what we did! We are dessert stealers! We are living outside the law!
"Went to the store, sat on Santa’s lap. Asked him to bring my friends all kinds of crap. He said all you need is to write them a song. Now, you haven’t heard it yet, so don’t try to sing along. No, don’t sing along.”
Is it true that the writers had originally intended for rachel to be with chandler? If so, do you know where I could find where they stated that? Thank you and your blog is amazing!
I can’t find the original source of the information, but it has been discussed by the writers that Joey/Monica were meant to be the main couple from the beginning before they cast the roles. Additionally Chandler and Phoebe were meant to be secondary characters and Chandler/Rachel was supposed planned to happen later on in the series.
However, there was a point in the earlier seasons where they were going to go for Chandler/Rachel. Apparently TOW The Flashback in S3 was a tester to see how audiences would react to having Chandler/Rachel together. The story goes that they decided not to go ahead with it because the audience were already invested in Ross/Rachel and that had become the main coupling for the show.
It’s a shame they didn’t go for Chandler/Rachel but the good thing is we got a LOT of Rachel/Chandler scenes in the earlier four seasons that we can enjoy!
